                Tiempo Tango Chicago

                                    -  It's time to Dance !

Whether tango dancer or music appreciator, Tiempo Tango Chicago will move your heart and soul.

With its superbly performed arrangements of tango classics - Piazzolla and Villoldo, Tiempo Tango Chicago performs with originality and style.

Founded by flutist and tanguera (tango dancer), Julie Koidin, Tiempo Tango Chicago is an instrumental ensemble that includes  Julie (flute), Joe Vito (accordion/piano), Julien Labro (bandoneon), Irina Feoktistova (piano) and John Tuck (bass).

We realize the unique needs of tango social dancing and strive to keep dancers on their feet!

Our repertoire is unique and flexible. While our mission is to perform tangos, milongas, and waltzes, we also offer jazz standards (Cole Porter, Duke Ellington), Brazilian music (bossa nova, samba, choro), and even classical and holiday music, as cortinas, full dance sets, or as a mixture.

"I cannot believe that a brand new Tango group from the Midwest can produce such a sound ...  that makes you want to get up and dance"

- George Drivakos,  Tango DJ

"The live band performance by Tiempo Tango Chicago Ensemble, directed by Julie Koidin and accompanied by Maestro Gerardo Perez, bandoneonist from Uruguay, was better than recorded music.  Their music pieces and the sound system was more than I had hoped for.  I felt like I was being transported to Argentina with the spectacular dancers and music.  Common Questions

What does Tiempo Tango mean? "Tango Time !"
The Spanish word "tiempo", like the Italian word "tempo", means "time". The phrase "tiempo de tango" literally has two meanings: 1) In the tempo or feel of a tango or 2) It is time to tango.
I want some music for a big event but do not know how to organize the entertainment. Can you help?
We would be pleased to consult with you on your ensemble options and music choices in order to best suit your needs.

Is there a difference between an Accordion and a Bandoneon?
They are both "squeezeboxes," but vary in timbre. One might say that the bandoneon is the German or Argentinian version of the accordion. One notable difference is the arrangement of keys -  the accordion has a piano-like keyboard, and the bandoneon has seemingly random buttons.

Does Tiempo Tango Chicago offer larger ensemble groupings?
Yes. Tiempo Tango always performs in our standard quartet configuration.  We also have the resources to augment our ensemble with more instruments such as violin and guitar, as well as with dancers.
Do you perform educational concerts?
Tiempo Tango is developing an educational series for grade school level through adult. Please contact us for more information.
